Natural ability

We look for a strong pointing instinct, desire to work, confidence in water, natural retrieving ability, and mental stability.

Sound temperament

Confident, biddable dogs make better partners at home, in training, and in the field.

Field-minded foundation

Every pairing is considered with the real work of a hunting dog in mind.

A thoughtful program from start to finish

01

Dog selection

Every breeding decision is made with purpose. We carefully select dogs from proven bloodlines, evaluating generations of genetics, health, natural ability, work ethic, temperament, and mental stability. Our dogs undergo extensive health screening and are evaluated through the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association testing system. Because this system measures dogs against objective, consistent standards, it helps us assess the instincts and versatility we believe should define the breed.

02

Thoughtful pairings

We pair dogs with intention, considering how each dog’s strengths, temperament, pedigree, and natural ability can complement the other. We also use pedigree data, including coefficient of inbreeding and unique dog numbers, to help scientifically evaluate potential pairings. The goal is a well-rounded litter with the qualities that matter in the field and at home.

03

Veterinary care throughout

From pre-breeding health planning through pregnancy and delivery, our dogs receive attentive veterinary support. We monitor each stage closely so mothers and puppies have the care they need from the very beginning. Before going home, each puppy receives veterinary examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping.

04

Early puppy development

Westrock puppies are raised with a strong focus on early development and preparing them for a smooth transition into family life. We begin potty training, crate training, and age-appropriate scent and bird exposure to build confidence and early foundations. Each puppy also goes home with a comprehensive package containing important records and resources.
