We are Steven and Marissa Weir, the proud owners of Westrock Kennels. When we started our search for our first German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP), we looked for kennels that produced dogs with high drive, a desire to work, cooperation, confidence, and a versatile hunting ability. In our search, we found the kennels that aligned with what we were looking for were all located in the United States. We purchased our first GSP "Mixon" from the States and immediately fell in love. We then formed our mission - to bring quality genetics and hunting bloodlines from the United States to Canada and practice ethical breeding to produce the highest quality line of GSPs within the Canadian Market.
We now have a family of GSPs and are extremely passionate about spending time with them. Our dogs spend lots of time in our house, and we believe it is important to have dogs that are equally as good in the house as they are in the field. Although genetics play a part in ensuring a balance between a good house pet and hunting companion, training for obedience is crucial. Our goal is to help your dog become an obedient family member as you develop clear communication, establish leadership, and build trust in your relationship.
Bird dog training is our passion and specialty. We enjoy getting to know our clients and discussing their training and hunting goals. We offer a profound understanding and ability to read a dogs body language and tailor their training accordingly. Our competitive nature helps us bring out the best in your dog, ensuring it reaches its full potential. We believe in the importance of educating our clients on handling their dogs. This ensures your dog can perform for you in your home and in the field.
We believe in the importance of evaluating our breeding and training programs to ensure we are providing our clients with exceptional service. Because of this, we are heavily involved in the Alberta North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) chapters. Being members allows us to volunteer our knowledge and expertise, build social connections in the dog world, as well as test our breeding and training programs.
We couldn’t imagine life without our dogs, and hope we can share what we love with you!
